October 2019 Meeting

Personal Reports:
  • Jennifer - A Rough Draft is in audiobook. Indie Strong FB live feeds on Mondays at 10:30pm. Put on YouTube after they air. Questions are welcome!
  • Jayleen - NIMROD conference is this Saturday, Oct. 18
  • Marilyn - had to leave early
  • Jenni - adjusting to school time, working on a new novel, approached to be a writer of the week on a website and kinda nervous
  • Rick - finished prequel to Xhanga and sent them to a couple young adults for beta reading
  • Natalie - taking baby steps, inspired by Olive’s “bible” lesson but may be overthinking, might be delayed but still making progress
  • Sallee - closing 2nd book. Glenn has edits done, has a beta reader, Rita has covers finished
  • Sue - editor wanting a flashback but she’s not sure so kinda frustrated, worried the flashback is overused

Anthology:
  • Brandy has volunteered to design anthology covers for free while she rebuilds her brand. 
  • Jayleen moved to have Brandy design the Valentine’s cover and then have WW vote on next cover option. 
  • Publication on February 11th (so stories can still be entered in OWFI and FOL)
  • Nov 1st - 19th for critique, submit story by Nov 1st
  • Monday, November 11th at 6:30 for critiques, gives everyone 10 days to read submissions.
  • Need a Title: Red Roses in Green Country

ROMANCE ANTHOLOGY DETAILS
We will be releasing a romance anthology on February 11, 2020. Anyone can submit, even if you didn't sign up. (The sign up sheet was for me to get a good grasp on what topics people wanted to do.) Here are the dates to remember:

1. October 15th: Come up with and finalize title (at meeting)
2. October 15th: Find date no later than November 19th for critique meeting. Denise from the library says we can schedule meetings just for critiquing and it won't affect when we can schedule meetings.
3. November 1st: All manuscripts for the romance anthology are due to Jennifer at BvilleWordWeavers@gmail.com so she can shoot them out to all the members for both cyber and in-person critiques.
4. November 18th: All cover ideas due. Will vote at the 11/19 meeting. Everyone is welcome to submit, please know that we can not pay at this time.
5. December 17th:  Final cover (if tweaks are needed) due. Final drafts for copy editing due.
6. January 21, 2020: Copy edits from editors due. Will return those to you ASAP.
7. February 1st: ALL FINAL DRAFTS DUE … HARD DEADLINE!
8. February 11th: Release date!!

Reports
Treasurer:  $440.56 in account. Have sold some new anthologies, 4 eBooks and 5 paperbacks over last 90 days. Soon will be minus $175 for the WW scholarship, and -$70 for Creme de la Creme trophy.

PR:  has been posting book of the day SHARE! Will look into possibly selling books in Woolaroc gift shop.

  • Jennifer M. is not feeling well today.
  • Create Space is now part of KDP.
  • Basket Wars, need to decide a theme next month so we can collect items in April. Basket auction funds the OWFI scholarship. (suggested theme Words & Weaves) 
  • OWFI scholarship applications are due by Thursday!
  • Marilyn waiting on covers for book
  • Olive taking a break from writing in February. Did submit a couple pieces to OWFI, looking forward to get back to Historical fiction book. Has completed 4-5 in series of novellas, needs to get them polished.
  • Pepper working on 4th novel. Stringing together a series of short stories for a novel. Novel that took 1st a couple years ago at OWFI is still in the works!
  • Ann trying to get a project done, involves a lot of research. Writes poetry for fun. Dreyer's English is a super fun book about writing/editing. 
  • Rick writing 6th novel. Suspense, Christian world view. Finishing Xhanga trilogy. First draft is done. Pepper did Hell's Gates cover, about ready for proof. 
  • Gary did do technical writing in past, now working on memoirs and family stories. Trying his hand at poetry...well ONE poem! 
  • Jayleen is too busy to write! Didn't get to enter OWFI, financial difficulties and deadlines don't mix. Still chair for Basket Wars, we need to decide theme. 
  • Meredith writes children's picture books. Agent sent note today with list of publishers she has sent Lily and Buttons to, will send another round in April if they don't hear anything. Critiquing a book of hers today, just finished another today as well! Member of SCBWI (children's book group).
  • Sallie working on 2nd book, about 2/3 complete. Thanks for the help! 
  • Drawing for WordWeaver OWFI Scholarship winner: Cathy Collar! alternative: Sallie
  • Do we want to sponsor a category? We sponsored Creme de la Creme last year because Cathy won. Maybe we should this year again because Pepper won. Jayleen moved that we sponsor $70 trophy for Creme de la Creme, Olive second, APPROVED.

Treasurer: Rick is in Hawaii! Has a new granddaughter, Hannah. Sold 2 e-books in December, unsure of createspace. Tell ppl about it!

Secretary: .Minutes have gone live! In other words I'm typing the notes online as we go.

PR: .new page likes on FB. Book of the Day was alphabetical but now will be random. (need to add Jenni) press release for E-E soon. Tuesday is most popular FB day so anthology will be book of day on Tuesdays!


Old News:  Christmas party, yay food!


New News:

  • Glenn working with literacy group, tutoring 2 students. working on creative non-fiction (getting a dog so soon after death of a dog). New grandson coming soon-Feb 19.
  • January 29th, Feb 15th, March 15th Poetry Night at Heritage Theatre in Dewey. Share poetry or just enjoy
  • Olive ghost writing at work. Suffering emotional weariness, hopefully passes soon. Possibly enter a fantasy story in OWFI.
  • Pepper sorting writings for OWFI. Teaching a class at OLLI. Recently published in two anthologies. Looking to break into "one story" a short pocket storybook. Trying to get Creme de la Creme Ghost Story published. 
  • Ann Help! How do you keep track of what you have submitted to all the contests?! FOL doesn't have a list of past wins. No content restrictions for OWFI, it just depends on the judge. (Basically Ann can't remember what categories she has won, HAHA!) 
  • Marilyn not sure if anything will be ready to enter in OWFI. 21 pages of book ready, needs a synopsis to enter. A couple options for short story/novel. Received payment for Guidepost: Angels on Earth, her story about her accident on March 30, 2017. Note: when you submit something for publication, you need to be able to let some of your story go, publishers will print the story they want. Either take the money and go, or get your story back. 
  • Jenni Manuscript Wishlist (twitter #mswl) all the agents and what they are looking for (their wish list), very detailed-also includes what they are NOT looking for. Prefers mswl to duo trope. Novella coming out in Storylandia by Wapshott (based in L.A.) kudos from the editor on her writing. Currently stuck on a plot to sequel to Noah Knows (self-published book). Wrote a Fantasy book with her brother that they are trying to get traditionally published. 
  • Natalie little Charlotte is 11 weeks old yay! maternity leave ends tomorrow boo! Still traveling back and forth to OKC for work, now with baby it's going to be rough! Finding time to write is tough. New Year's resolution to find routine!
  • Jayleen 2 weeks off from school, stayed at a friend's lake house for a few days to write lesson plans and contest submissions! Getting away is the best for writing. 
  • Jennifer resolution goal to find balance between mommyhood and writing. Rebuilding from plans in place last year, pregnancy was TOUGH. For now, family first. 
  • Sallie 36,000 words finished for her book and feels like most of the info is already there, minus 20,000ish words. What to do?! Jenn offers adding the fat and a subplot. Marilyn said get some more problem/resolve. Ann suggests writing the end so she knows how much more she actually needs.
  • Retreat center in Tulsa? Forest of Peace in Sand Springs. $80/night
  • Please keep Cindy in your thoughts, her mom fell and broke femur. 
  • Do we want to sponsor a full scholarship? Majority Yes, we will draw next week.
  • FOL and OWFI contest entries due FEBRUARY 1st
  • Anthologies -promo giveaway still in the works.
  • Linda Derkez sold their house and will be moving at the end of the month. 
  • Now that we don't have anthology, send Jenn what you want critiqued, she will take first 3 (no more than 10 pages)
